British Schools National Biathlon Championships

Clayesmore was once again delighted to send Prep and Senior School pupils to the British Schools National Biathlon Championships, held at Crystal Palace on the weekend of 17 and 18 March. 

Team coach and Clayesmore’s Director of Swimming, Ali Pickford, takes up the story: 

“The ‘Mini Beast from the EAST!’ was not so mini and the snow and icy conditions caused chaos over the weekend. On the Saturday the girls were able to run on the outdoor athletics track but with the heavy snow and below freezing wind the experience was not pleasant. However, in true Clayesmore style the girls braved the conditions and ran their best. Sadly for the boys the run was cancelled because by Sunday the track was iced up and covered with snow! The boys’ Regional run time was used with the swim time at the finals. So sadly they did not have an opportunity to improve.

Fortunately the pool was not affected by the weather and our pupils had great swims in their heats, all improving their times recorded at the Regionals in October 2017. Pick of the performers on the day was U11 boy, Charlie, who swam in the fastest heat in his age group, coming fourth in the swim and tenth overall.
