Dan Conway and Andrea Cheverton, Heads of Sport

“Clayesmore fully recognises and embraces sport as essential in the development of an individual’s character and an integral part of daily life at the school.”

Here we firmly believe that ‘Excellence’ and ‘Sport for all’ can co-exist. At the heart of our provision is our fixture and tournament programme, with A B and C teams in all major sports who compete against local, national and international sides, and termly inter-house competitions. Parents are welcome to attend and support fixtures, the details of which are published in our Parents’ Area.

Incredible Facilities

Clayesmore is very well-equipped with fabulous playing fields and games courts. There is a full size, flood-lit, all-weather hockey pitch, which converts into a large number of tennis courts for the summer.

The Sports Centre has long been a major feature of Clayesmore life, with its large hall, indoor cricket nets, badminton and squash courts, fitness suite and indoor 25m swimming pool. These facilities are available for student use in leisure time.

Sporting Success

Many pupils excel at sport, participating at both county and national levels, and Clayesmore offers them as much flexibility as possible to ensure they are able to take part in training and events.

We have links with numerous teams and development squads including Bath Rugby, Dorset and Wiltshire Rugby, Dorset Cricket and Hockey Clubs, Bournemouth and Blandford and Sturminster Newton Hockey Clubs.

The school’s cricketing programme has been recognised for many years by The Cricketer Magazine as one of the top 100 in the country.

International Sport Tours

As well as welcoming international touring sides for competitive fixtures, overseas sports tours have long been a part of the sporting programme.

Previous tours have visited the Netherlands, India, Spain, South Africa and Sri Lanka.

There is a joint senior hockey tour planned to Barcelona in October 2019.

The Sports Development Group

The Sports Development Group enables pupils to improve fitness and enhance specific skills with specialist training and activities.

These pupils may be Sports Scholars but the programme is open to all those who aspire towards high performance levels.
